Luger - Voyager 30 Ketch (LUG027720680)
Manufacturer: Luger Industries
Luger Industries, Inc. was a manufacturer of kit boats.
Founded by brothers O.L.and R.J. Luger in the garage behind the family home, the Luger brothers began selling wooden kit boats in 1952, pioneered the all-fiberglass kit boat market in 1959, and was soon considered "The World's Largest Manufacturer of Kit Boats."
The company produced dozens of models including power boats and sail boats. It is estimated that the company sold more than 100,000 boat kits during its operation.
Luger Boats closed for business in 1987, after 35 successful years in the marine industry.
Information: Comprehensive information on the Luger 30' ketch can be found on the Luger Yachts website: http://lugerboats.webs.com/home/index.html
History: This boat was bought new in 1981 for $19,310.25
Included in the kit was the basic Voyager with main & mizzen mast, interior kit, rudder system, standing rigging, center board system, trim molding, cabin windows, cabin interior lights, galley equipment, vanity head equipment, hand rails, bow pulpit, stern rail, lifelines, outboard motor compartment, running lights, fresh water system, marine toilet, hi-lo outboard motor mount.
The original owner completed the deck & hull connection, reinforcements for standing rigging, bow rail installed, companionway drop boards cut fitted & varnished, sliding companionway hatch finished & in place, centerboard faired & ready for painting, all hatches cut and fitted.
In 1987 the original owner began construction of a new home, found he had no time to work on the boat and decided to sell it.
As the current owner I worked on the boat on a part time basis during summer vacations with some years were skipped because of other commitments and accomplished 98 percent of the construction but it was never completed. The boat is still in new condition and sitting in its cradle and has never been sailed.
All kit components have been installed and completed.
2,775 pounds of lead ballast have been installed in the keel and another 490 pounds in the centerboard
Additional equipment installed include: 2 winches, all electrical wiring, electrical panel, interior cabin light, carpeting for the interior sidewalls, all seat and bunk cushions are installed, depth finder, compass, boat cradle and four boat stands.
Included are the original Luger sales catalog, 22 pages of construction drawings & instructions, other related documents and a detailed and documented expense record.
Reason for selling: Due to age and health I have reluctantly decided to sell this boat.
Work to be done: The only things left to be done are to install the 2 mast winches and paint the bottom & boot stripe. Purchase running rigging, sails and outboard motor and it will be ready to sail.
Total amount invested in the boat is $24,350.00
Selling price: Reduced to $8,000.00
Location: Phippsburg, Maine
New owner must arrange for hauling the boat and cradle.
